Counsels women about the alternatives to and adverse effects of hysterectomy and castration. 98% of women HERS counseled discovered that they did not need hysterectomies. HERS is the only independent, international, non-profit organization dedicated to the issue of hysterectomy. HERS advocates for fully informed medical choices by women. From March 2004 to March 2005 HERS led a nationwide protest held in 51 cities in 51 weeks. In conjunction with the protest, HERS produced Rick Schweikert’s play about the issues surrounding hysterectomy, UN BECOMING, in twenty-two cities. The play premiered in Off Broadway in February 2004.
