CDD holds a powerful sector of the economy—commercial data companies and digital marketers and media companies—accountable. We review and make public the activities of this sector, and promptly act in those areas—such as contemporary data-collection practices on mobile devices, in stores, and online— that require public education and advocacy. Similarly, we move expeditiously in exposing unfair practices that target low-income consumers, young people, or that involve the use without permission of a person’s race, ethnicity, or political views. In all of these areas, we believe, CDD provides an invaluable and distinct service to the public.
