A nationwide, voluntary organization of psychotherapists working at offering folks an alternative to managed care for counseling and psychotherapy. Fights for the traditional values of the profession in the face of destructive managed-care practices. Believes that people have the right to privacy in their treatment, so that their diagnosis, symptoms, and behavior are private matters, not to be divulged to insurance companies or healthcare corporations. Believes that the length and type of treatment should be decided between the client and therapist, and not by corporate software. Also believes that people have a right to choose the professional with whom they feel comfortable--not to be assigned by an HMO.
